On 8 September 2025, the architectural world lost one of its greatest figures. Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, renowned British architect and pioneer of the High Tech movement, passed away at the age of 85. His passing marks not just the end of a remarkable career but also a moment for reflection on how his work continues to shape the way we think about architecture today.

🌱 The Eden Project, Cornwall (2001)
Perhaps his most famous project, the Eden Project transformed a disused clay pit into a global landmark. The enormous biome domes, housing thousands of plant species, are an example of architecture working hand-in-hand with sustainability, education, and community. This project epitomises how architecture can inspire and reconnect people with the natural world.
🚉 Waterloo International Terminal, London (1993)
A masterpiece of transport design, this sweeping glass and steel structure created a bold new gateway for Eurostar passengers travelling to and from the UK. The terminal’s curved roof and transparency symbolised connection and progress, showcasing Grimshaw’s skill at blending functionality with architectural drama.

The 42-metre-high rocket tower, clad in a translucent ETFE skin, remains one of the UK’s most striking landmarks. It demonstrates Grimshaw’s flair for using new materials in expressive ways, as well as his commitment to designing spaces that spark curiosity and imagination.
