About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organised Company Bookkeeper to join our practice. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to grow with a creative team and play a crucial role in the financial management of our business.

Key responsibilities include:

As a Company Bookkeeper at Architecture North, you will play a vital role in the smooth running of our financial operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Financial Transactions: Accurately record daily financial activities, including sales, payments, receipts, invoices, and bank deposits.

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage incoming and outgoing payments, ensuring suppliers are paid on time and clients’ payments are tracked effectively.

  • Bank Reconciliation: Regularly reconcile bank and credit card statements to maintain accurate records and spot discrepancies early.

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports to support decision making.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with budget planning and monitoring, helping the team understand expenditure and financial targets.

  • Payroll Support: Work alongside the Principal Director to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.

  • Audit & Compliance: Keep financial documentation organised for audits and ensure compliance with UK financial regulations and tax obligations.

  • Data Management: Maintain orderly records of invoices, receipts, and expense claims to ensure quick access when needed.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the wider team to provide financial insights, highlight risks, and support project planning from a financial perspective.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on bookkeeping best practices, accounting software improvements, and financial legislation to keep our systems efficient and compliant.

Required Skills & Attributes

To thrive as a Company Bookkeeper at Architecture North, you should bring:

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: A proven ability to maintain precise financial records and spot inconsistencies quickly.

  • Organisation and Time Management: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Analytical Thinking: Confidence in analysing financial data, identifying trends, and providing meaningful insights to support decision making.

  • Technical Proficiency: Solid knowledge of bookkeeping practices and experience using accounting software such as Xero. Proficiency with the iWorks Suite (particularly Numbers) is highly desirable.

  • Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication skills to explain financial information to colleagues without financial backgrounds.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to proactively resolve financial discrepancies and implement efficient solutions.

  • Discretion and Integrity: A high level of professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust to the evolving needs of a growing start-up, from day-to-day bookkeeping to supporting bigger financial planning.

  • Team Player Mindset: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues across all levels of the practice while also being confident working independently.

  • Administrative Support: Ability to take on occasional ad-hoc administrative tasks that contribute to the smooth running of the practice.
