79. Professional Experience and Development Record Policy
79.1. The purpose of this policy is to support employees undertaking professional qualifications (such as the RIBA Part 3 qualification) by providing a structured framework for completing and maintaining their Professional Experience and Development Record (PEDR).
79.1.1. The policy ensures that employees gain the necessary experience, training, and support while maintaining accurate and compliant records.
79.2. This policy applies to all employees who are:
79.2.1. Architectural assistants or trainees working towards RIBA Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3.
79.2.2. Employees required to complete PEDRs as part of their professional development.
79.2.3. Supervisors and mentors responsible for reviewing and signing off PEDRs.
79.3. Employees completing PEDRs must:
79.3.1. Keep records up to date by submitting PEDRs on a quarterly basis (every 3 months).
79.3.2. Ensure PEDRs are accurate, honest, and reflective of actual experience gained.
79.3.3. Record details of projects, tasks, and professional development undertaken.
79.3.4. Submit PEDRs to their designated supervisor or mentor for review and feedback.
79.3.5. Take ownership of their professional development by identifying learning needs.
79.4. Supervisors and mentors will:
79.4.1. Review and provide feedback on PEDR submissions.
79.4.2. Verify that the experience recorded is accurate and aligns with professional standards.
79.4.3. Support employees by identifying opportunities to gain the required project experience.
79.4.4. Sign off on PEDRs in a timely manner (normally within 2 weeks of submission).
79.4.5. Encourage employees to broaden their professional skills across RIBA work stages.
79.5. Architecture North Ltd will:
79.5.1. Provide a structured learning environment where staff can gain varied experience across RIBA work stages.
79.5.2. Allocate a supervisor/mentor for each employee completing PEDRs.
79.5.3. Support time and resources needed to complete PEDRs as part of ongoing professional development.
79.5.4. Ensure compliance with RIBA and ARB requirements for professional development and record keeping.
79.6. Submission & Review Process.
79.6.1. Employees must submit PEDRs electronically (in PDF format) to their supervisor/mentor every quarter.
79.6.2. Supervisors/mentors will review and provide feedback before signing off.
79.6.3. Signed PEDRs must be stored in the company’s CPD & Training Records folder for reference.
79.6.4. Employees are encouraged to keep a personal copy for their professional portfolio.
79.7. Compliance
79.7.1. Failure to maintain PEDRs may delay an employee’s professional qualification progress.
79.7.2. It is the responsibility of both employee and supervisor to ensure PEDRs are up to date and submitted on time.
79.8.This policy will be reviewed annually or as required by changes in RIBA/ARB requirements.
