65. Training and Continuing Professional Development Policy
65.1 Architecture North is committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
65.1.1. This policy outlines our approach to employee training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), ensuring that all staff have the opportunity to maintain, enhance, and broaden their knowledge and skills relevant to their roles and future aspirations.
65.2 This policy applies to all employees, including full-time, part-time, and contract staff.
65.2.1. It covers internal training, external courses, professional qualifications, and informal development activities related to architectural practice, compliance, technology, and soft skills.
65.3. The objectives are to:
65.3.1. Ensure all employees meet required professional standards and regulatory obligations (e.g., ARB, RIBA)
65.3.2. Enhance staff competence, confidence, and performance
65.3.3. Support career progression, talent development, and staff retention
65.3.4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, tools, and legislation
65.3.5. Encourage personal accountability in professional development
65.4. Recognised activities may include, but are not limited to:
65.4.1. Formal courses and workshops (in person or online)
65.4.2. Seminars, lectures, and webinars.
65.4.3. Industry conferences and networking events.
65.4.4. Professional memberships and accreditations.
65.4.5. In-house training sessions and knowledge sharing
65.4.6. Mentoring, shadowing, or coaching
65.4.7. Self-directed study and technical research.
65.5. Employees are expected to:
65.5.1. Actively participate in learning and development opportunities.
65.5.2. Track and maintain personal CPD records (especially where required by governing bodies).
65.5.3. Submit any new certifications or qualifications via the company’s CPD submission form.
65.5.4. Identify relevant training needs through supervision or annual appraisals.
65.5.5. Ensure CPD hours meet the minimum requirements of professional registration bodies, if applicable.
65.6. Training needs will be reviewed annually as part of the performance management cycle
65.6.1. This policy will be reviewed regularly to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards, and business needs
65.7. Failure to engage with required training or submit CPD records, especially where linked to regulated professional roles, may result in performance reviews or affect ongoing employment in specialist roles.
