JOB DESCRIPTION

Our studio is looking for a innovated Interior Designer Assistant to join our Nottingham practice.

Our interior design studio is relatively new within our practice, as a result you will be involved in the development and procurement of securing new work to the office, whilst working on the projects we have secured within our studio. You will be working as part of a team with a client focused position within the practice, which will enable you to understand the clients project brief, and developed their specification to deliver over the different stages.

This will be a one year full time contract with the potential to become permanent. 

Starting date: Beginning of September onwards.

As a member of the design team you will be involved throughout the whole design process. As we are a small team, we are driven, friendly, focused and agile; we forge personal relationships to understand our clients’ needs and ensure that our designs schemes exceed our clients expectations. Every project is unique, as is our approach. As we are a small team, you will will gain first hand experience communicating design ideas with clients, exploring mood boards, through to working alongside suppliers, fabricators and manufacturers to design specialist items. You will need a working knowledge of domestic and commercial furniture, fixture and equipment but you guided throughout the design process with our project team. As our interior design team is relatively new you will have control over our projects, allowing you to communicate to our clients, and develop your portfolio. You will understand how to procure work and have an influential development of our practice.

 

Your responsibilities:

Your experience, skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.

  • Proactive and enthusiastic.

  • Competence and clarity in communicating ideas and interior design narratives.

  • Experience in domestic and commercial furniture, fixture and equipment (FF & E) procurement.

  • Develop, source and manage the FF & E packages for our projects.

  • Produce mood boards and 3D sketches, physical and digital models to capture and communicate the design intent.

  • Competence and clarity in communicating ideas and interior design narratives through physical and digital tools.

  • Design communication that considers project’s unique identity and value, as well as responding to client concerns and needs.

  • Experience of the design and procurement of specialist joinery items.

  • Participate in regular design workshops with our clients.

  • Produce schedules, drawings, costing and specifications for tender and construction purposes.

  • To play and active role within the negotiations with suppliers and contractors.

  • Work alongside suppliers, fabricators and manufacturers to procure specialist items.

  • Work closely with other consultants to coordinate pre-construction information.

  • Able to take guidance as well as working independently.

  • Great time management and organisational skills.

  • Able to communicate design ideas verbally and visually.

  • Fluent user of ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and SketchUp.

  • Familiar with the range of computer rendering and animation software including their relative merits and processing techniques.

  • Engaged, inquisitive and interested in innovative design projects.

  • Empathy for great design, and attention to detail.

  • An interest in nurturing and developing others.

  • Resilient and determined.

Knowledge Management

  • Attendance in continuing professional development and familiarise with emerging best practice to allow them to deliver technical excellence.

  • Participate in learning activities, keep abreast of current technological developments and regularly attend internal studio talks and workshops.

  • Share knowledge, experience and lessons learned across the team and the wider studio.

Studio Contribution

  • Contribute proactively to wider studio projects and initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain a positive and professional relationships, internally and externally.
