This project in Kimberley, Nottingham, saw the complete transformation of a much-loved family bungalow into a modern, light-filled home ready for the next chapter in the clients’ lives. Architecture North Ltd was appointed to lead the redesign, with a focus on improving spatial flow, daylight, and overall functionality, while preserving the character and legacy of a property that had been in the family for many years.

The design reconfigures the internal layout to better suit contemporary living, placing the bedrooms at the front of the home to create a sense of privacy and calm. To the rear, a new open-plan arrangement was introduced, combining the kitchen, dining, and living areas into one expansive and connected space. This shift supports more sociable living and offers an improved relationship with the rear garden.

Side and rear extensions were key to unlocking the property’s potential, allowing for generous living spaces and the inclusion of a separate utility room, improving practicality without compromising the main layout. Large glazed double doors and feature roof lanterns were introduced to maximise natural light, helping to create a bright, airy atmosphere throughout the new additions. These elements not only enhance the visual appeal but also ensure a strong connection between inside and out.

A newly integrated staircase provides safe and convenient access to attic storage, improving the home's long-term usability without the need for a full loft conversion.
