Architecture North Ltd was approached by a client seeking to expand their home with a modest extension, aiming to increase living space while preserving the property’s original character and functionality. While the initial brief centred on a straightforward addition, our team identified the potential for a more strategic and integrated design response.

Through a series of in-depth consultations, we developed a proposal that went beyond a basic extension. Our approach focused on reconfiguring the existing layout in tandem with the new build, ensuring the added space worked cohesively with the original structure. This not only enhanced the footprint of the home but also improved flow, circulation, and day-to-day usability.

A key design challenge involved protecting recently refurbished elements of the home, most notably a newly renovated bathroom, the client wished to retain. In response, we adopted a creative and sensitive approach to spatial planning, reworking the layout around these fixed points while still delivering a transformative result.

The completed project delivers a subtle yet significant reimagining of the home, adding space, improving functionality, and enriching the lived experience, all while preserving the details the client valued most.
