PROJECT BIO

Located in Nottingham’s vibrant Creative Quarter, Campbell Grove is a standout heritage renovation that brings together sensitive restoration, thoughtful design, and local cultural celebration. Situated within the Sneinton Market Conservation Area and forming part of a Grade II listed Victorian terrace, the property has been reimagined by Architecture North Ltd as a boutique Airbnb that pays homage to one of the city’s most celebrated figures, fashion designer Sir Paul Smith.

The client’s ambition was to transform the home into a unique destination that reflects Nottingham’s rich architectural and creative legacy. Internally, the house has been fully reconfigured and upgraded to meet modern standards while celebrating the heritage of the building and the vibrant personality of Paul Smith. The basement level, once unused, has been converted into a luxurious bathroom featuring a freestanding bath and walk-in shower, creating a private, spa-like retreat. On the ground floor, the kitchen and dining areas have been opened up to allow for improved flow and functionality, enhancing the spatial quality while maintaining the integrity of the original layout.

Upstairs, the first-floor bathroom was removed and the space reimagined as a comfortable lounge area. A new shower room was introduced, brought to life with a skylight above that bathes the room in natural light. One of the most transformative interventions in the project was the installation of a skylight above the central staircase, which had previously suffered from a lack of light. This new feature dramatically brightens the core of the home, introducing vertical light and creating a stronger connection between the different levels.

Floor plan diagrams of a multi-story house, showing various rooms such as bedrooms, living areas, bathrooms, and kitchen on different levels, with exterior yards and pathways.

“Architecture is the ultimate bespoke design service, tailored to each
client’s unique vision.”

Living room with a fireplace, a beige sofa, a round coffee table with a flower vase, a mural with striped patterns on the wall, and a flat-screen TV. There are decorative shelves with books and ornaments. The room is well-lit by natural light.

The bedrooms throughout the house have each been designed to reflect the signature aesthetic of Paul Smith, using his distinctive colour palette and playful design elements to offer guests an experience that is both comfortable and characterful. To preserve the building’s listed status, the windows were carefully restored to their original design, ensuring that the property’s historic exterior remains true to its Victorian origins.
