This project involved the full reconfiguration and targeted extension of a ground-floor layout, tailored to meet the evolving needs of a growing family. Architecture North Ltd was appointed to create a more functional, welcoming, and future-ready living environment by rethinking how space could better support day-to-day life.

A key element of the transformation was the addition of a front porch extension, which introduces a clear transitional threshold into the home. This practical space now serves as a buffer zone for shoes, coats, bags, and everyday items, improving organisation and helping to reduce clutter within the main living areas.

Internally, one of the major challenges was the existing staircase, which previously occupied a dominant position in the hallway. Its awkward orientation restricted movement and made the space difficult to use. By reconfiguring and repositioning the stairs, Architecture North unlocked significant floor area and re-established flow throughout the ground floor.

The revised layout introduced a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space, forming the social heart of the home. This central area supports family life with flexibility and ease, while full-height glazed doors offer views out to the client’s garden, drawing in natural light and extending the living space outdoors.

The redesign also made room for a generous utility space and walk-in pantry, adding valuable functionality. A dedicated home office was incorporated to accommodate hybrid working needs, and the ground floor WC was fully reimagined to provide improved accessibility and visual continuity with the rest of the interior.
