Accessible and Modern Bungalow Renovation in Wollaton

😔 From Hindrance to Opportunity

When our clients purchased a bungalow in Wollaton, they had high hopes. But as they compared it to their existing three-storey townhouse, doubts quickly crept in.

Instead of feeling like a step toward their future, the bungalow felt like a hindrance. It was dark, damp, and dated. Uneven parquet floors and a disjointed layout offered little comfort. Worse still, poor access and mobility challenges made the home feel like it would never support the lifestyle they wanted.

They had invested in a property that simply didn’t work for them, and the regret was real. What they longed for was a place that was light, airy, and accessible. A home designed around their needs, not the limitations of the existing building.

That’s when we stepped in.

🛋️ Reimagining Space for Modern Living

We began by stripping back the outdated layout and asking a simple question: How do you want to live here every day?

The answer was clear, a home that connected seamlessly. By opening up three separate rooms, we created a generous open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space at the heart of the home. Flooded with natural light and connected to the garden, it’s a hub for family life.

To balance this, we introduced a flexible lounge that can be opened up for gatherings or closed off for quiet moments. This blend of openness and privacy gives the family real freedom in how they use their space.

🌞 Flooding the Home with Light

The biggest transformation was light. By designing vaulted pyramid ceilings and new glazing, we introduced height, airiness, and daylight throughout.

Even areas that typically lack natural light, he utility room and garage, were revitalised with sun tunnels, ensuring every corner feels bright and usable.

The new bedroom suite now opens directly onto the garden, blurring the boundaries between inside and out. It’s a space that finally feels uplifting and future-focused.

🛏️ Bedrooms with Character and Comfort

Each bedroom was designed to have its own personality. A bay window creates character in one, while another enjoys direct access to the garden. New en-suite bathrooms bring privacy and ease of use, while the main family bathroom was reimagined to be practical and inviting.

This is bespoke design at its best: every detail reflecting the people who will live here.

🚪 Everyday Living Made Simple

Accessibility and practicality were key. We redesigned the hallway into a bright, welcoming space, perfect for both a piano 🎹 and a study desk, balancing personal touches with functionality.

The once-detached garage was integrated into the home, bringing efficiency and flow. Most importantly, we reimagined the front entrance, creating a welcoming approach that supports mobility needs and ensures the home is as functional as it is beautiful.

🌿 Built with the Future in Mind

This project wasn’t just about fixing problems, it was about unlocking possibility. With sustainability at its core, the bungalow now relies less on artificial lighting and is designed for comfort long into the future.

For our clients, what once felt like a hindrance has become an opportunity fulfilled: a bespoke, light-filled, and accessible home that finally feels like theirs.
